It's strange... I wrote this just over 4 years ago... and it's still relevant. So, I figured I'd finally post it. It's been a while since I've done any writing. I've allowed social media to use more time than is healthy and it's kept me from those things that I truly love. At least I was blessed to be be born before the all-encompassing world of social media and its addictive nature so I was able to be bored long enough to search within for that which I love instead of always using my phone as a diversion. (but perhaps that's a blog for another day) :)
Observation #1: It's not our job to judge or control our neighbor's behavior. That is a job so big that only God can do it. If each and every one of us lives by the Golden Rule, we'll see that our family, neighborhood, community, state, country, and world will be a better place. So, when we're looking for improvement, we can't point a finger outward, we have to look within and ask what we can do to help our micro-community thrive. We can't fix a big problem until we solve the smaller ones. Observation #2: We don't need to spend our energy loving or hating a political party. It's a waste of time, energy and focus. There will always be varying opinions. No one group is completely correct or incorrect. We all agree that our country is not perfect, but nothing really is! We're allowed the option to think as we want because we live in the United States. We can't allow party lines destroy us. We're all passengers on the same ship that needs to stay afloat. You may find much wrong with our country, but blowing a hole in the hull of this 'ship' will kill us all. It's our country and our responsibility to take care of it. We need to do what's necessary to save it so future generations can have not only the freedoms that we have, but many more! Observation #3: It's essential to find common ground! Let's stop worrying about that which divides us as a nation. It is a wedge that splits us apart. If we're not careful, we won't be able to fix the damage. We need to find the ways that we're all the same. The glue that will hold us together. What bonds us as humans is the need for companionship, the need to know that we have something to offer, the need for prosperity that can lead to happiness and the need for love of life and belief that it's a gift. Observation #4: You CANNOT fix a problem by creating more problems. It's like trying to fix a flat tire by deflating the other three. You cannot fix with hate and harm. You can only fix with love and understanding! Watch your actions and your energy... are you making things better or worse? If you're making them better, then keep going. If you're making them worse, then it's never too late to adjust your path. Observation #5: It's not only the responsibility of a teacher to teach. It's the responsibility of the student to learn. Neither teachers nor students are perfect. We are works in progress. If a teacher is not doing their job, then we don't close down the entire school. We work with the teacher to come to an understanding of what's needed. In the same line of thinking, it's not the responsibility of our elected officials to impart happiness, love and prosperity. It's the job of it's citizens to do their part in the pursuit of these rights as well. Both the government and its citizens are works in progress. If we have elected officials that are not doing what needs to be done, we shouldn't close down or destroy the government. We work together to find out what's needed.

Just like you, I wear many hats. I'm a mom, a teacher, a friend, a daughter, a sister, and a writer. I choose to laugh (and talk... and write) about my problems because crying takes too much time. CategoriesArchives
